A Proven Track Record of Fighting for Neighborhoods Throughout El Paso County
Bill Wysong never envisioned running for office, but his deep commitment to public safety and community well-being compelled him to step up when he saw developer-funded leaders prioritizing development over the safety of residents. In an already overdeveloped area that faced the catastrophic Waldo Canyon Fire, leadership was ignoring essential public safety and evacuation modeling tools. As Victor Hugo once wrote,
"Adversity makes men, and prosperity makes monsters."
Reflecting on his journey, Bill says, "I didn't seek this; I was called to it." He successfully stopped the 2424 Garden of the Gods development and founded Westside Watch, a Wildland Urban Coalition that has empowered neighborhoods throughout El Paso County to fight overdevelopment that endangers lives. Bill also fought against the Wilson Water Tank, continually lobbied for more parkland dedications as part of development projects, and opposed changes in ReToolCOS that limited citizens' ability to object to development. Additionally, he is actively lobbying for building height limits to protect our community's character and safety. Bill Wysong is a proven advocate, tirelessly working to protect the rights and safety of the citizens.
Here are some of neighborhoods Bill has helped through his leadership with Westside Watch: Cheyenne Canon, The Broadmoor, The Spires, Broadmoor Bluffs, Skyway, Harlan-Wolfe, Ivywild, Pleasant Valley, Manitou, Cedar Heights, Kissing Camels, Old Colorado City, The Mesa, Peregrine, Rockrimmon, Pine Creek, Manitou Springs, Monument, Rock Creek Mesa, and Cascade.
